Retro Revival

Chris's Sierra Cosworth 4x4
Chris bought this 1991 Sierra Cosworth after selling his 205 Mi16. Fords aren't reknown for lasting the test of time too well, but this example is really very good. Chris has been slowly working around the car improving a few things and replacing worn items.

With the rear suspension and bodykit completely removed, we found a small area of rot to the sill and large are of rot to the rear chassis leg. This highlights just how difficult it is to find a good old ford, the extent of the rot to the chassis leg being completely out of character to the condition of the rest of the car. More worryingly, it was completely hidden with the rear suspension/axle in place. Both areas were repaired with new metal and the underside of the car and its inner wheelarches were stipped clean before being waxoyled.

The rear brake calipers were stripped and rebuilt and the rear axle was refitted. New polybushes were fitted to the front with new track control arms and new bottom wishbones. The anti roll bar bushes were also replaced with polyurethane items, as were the suspension top mountings. The rear brakes were assembled with new copper brake pipes, new rear brake discs and pads and a full set of braided brake hoses from goodridge with 5.1 brake fluid.

Chris re-detailed his cam cover with the correct Ford colours and fitted the silicone hoses. On went a 2wd dizzy cap and set of competition silicone ignition leads. The car got a good service with mobil 1 oil, genuine oil and fuel filters. And oil pressure and boost gauges were fitted. The only thing left is the pursuit of more power.

The car was fairly original when Chris bought it apart from its lowered suspension. It also sat on a set of 7 spoke TSW wheels which looked awful, and were quickly swapped for those pictured above with a set of new yokohama tyres. Chris also bought a larger alloy intercooler, full set of silicone hoses, K&N Airfilter, new suspension springs all round, new koni adjustable rear dampers, full set of goodridge braided brake hoses and a full set of polyurethane suspension bushes.
