Adam's Ford Escort Mk1
This Mk1 is a sound basis for a project car due to the excellent condition of its chassis rails and original floorpans. Like many old escorts, at one point in its life it seemed destined for a rally track, but thankfully it was saved. Much of our work on this shell is replacing the rotten sections of metalwork, and undoing various 'modifications' made by previous owners. When finished, this should make a fabulous looking car.
With one side panelled up, there was a good degree of strength back in the shell. It was time to tackle the other side. Note that there are 3 or 4 layers of steel on each bulkhead side section, the result of various repairs over the years!
Then onto the strut tops. Measuring revealed that the drivers side kit pan had been attached in the wrong place, and at the wrong angle, so this was cut out and re-welded in the correct position. It was then a case of fettling the strut top repair panels to fit, and splicing in new metal to the inner wings.
