1970 Ford Escort MK1
I bought this car when i was 17 years old, and after nearly 3 years im still no closer to driving it. College, Work, Friends etc all seem to hamper progress on the 'scort, but im determined that it will hit the road Summer 2008.

The origins of the shell are up for debate. The car has a stonegaurd mounted to its bootfloor, a blackheadlining, 140MPH 8kRPM dashclocks, anti tramp bars, skidded front spring hangers and the battery in the boot. These features were only fitted to the famous Type 49 shells. One theory is that this was an export shell, which often had odds and sods bolted to them, before being sent abroad. The other theory is that this is a GT shell.

One things for sure, its very rotten.

After arriving home, she didnt look too bad. Plates on the sill gave the game away, and we were aware of the horrors lying beneath. This car was bought for the sole reason that its chassis legs are excellent

Fitting inner and outer sills, on a driveway, in mid December. Definately not the best idea ever had.

Escorts have a reputation for dissolving in the rain, but compared to some they dont actually rot that bad. The main thing that kills escorts is the repairwork they had in the 80's and early 90's, when the cars were worth very little.

Here we can see that 'repair plates' have been not so carefully placed on top of one another. A total of 5 repair plates were removed from my 2 Strut tops.

And thats pretty much how she sat for a good while.The escort was finally moved to our workshop after 18 months in the cold. With all the neccesary tools on hand, and a cosy spraybooth, progress on the escort should be rapid, once i get my 205 back on the road.
